FLORIDA AGRICULTURAL CLAIM RESOURCES

Nursery & greenhouse losses.

One storm can damage plants, shade cloth, buildings and equipment. A useful review separates each part of the loss.

Separate the plants from the structures.

Insurance for nursery plant inventory is not necessarily the policy that insures a greenhouse, shade structure, irrigation system or equipment. Identify the insured property and applicable coverage before assigning values.

Preserve inventory evidence.

Plant lists, varieties and sizes, quantities, purchase and sales records, photographs, and pre-loss condition can help explain inventory damage. Record damage by area and keep related care, treatment and disposal records.

Understand Nursery Value Select.

USDA RMA identifies Nursery Value Select as replacing Nursery Field Grown & Container beginning with the 2026 crop year. Confirm the actual program and policy in force with your agent. The inventory valuation and reporting requirements deserve specific review.

Document structural and equipment damage separately.

Photograph torn coverings, damaged supports and affected systems when safe. Gather building and equipment schedules, maintenance records, estimates and emergency-repair receipts. Do not assume storm damage, flooding, loss of power or spoilage is covered simply because it occurred.

Before removal or disposal.

Report promptly, protect plants with the required care, and obtain any required insurer approval before disposing of damaged inventory or altering evidence. Julio can discuss policy review and documentation support within the agreed services.
